Class #12 Education

Do you agree with the writer Minae Mizumura (“The Fall of Japanese in the Age of English”) when she says that”, “the dominance of English, especially with the advent of the Internet, threatens to reduce all other national languages to mere “local” languages that are not taken seriously by scholars. The education system, she argues, doesn’t spend enough time teaching Japanese.”Why? Give at least 3 reasons to support your answer.

Firstly, I don't think, "The education system, doesn’t spend enough time teaching Japanese". We study Japanese by the compulsory education of nine years. And, most people study it more three years at high school.

Secondly, There are a lot of books around us. And our parents read the picture book for us in the early childhood, and then we learned Japanese.

Thirdly, certainly, education free from of pressure becomes a problem. However to improve our scholastic attainments, the school is adopting the plan excluding the class. In my case, our junior high school has “Morning reading” and self-study with papers before lunchtime.

Class #11 Men and Women

I disagree with this article. Certainly, there are some men not married though 30 years old or more in my acquaintance. However, they have a positive idea for love and the marriage. But having said that, it is certain that the man "Soushoku kei danshi(草食系男子)" is a topic in Japan now.

Class #10 Table Manners

1. Have you ever eaten in a restaurant in a foreign country? Where? What did you eat? Did you make any mistakes? Please explain your experience.
I have eaten a course dish at a restaurant in Britain. When I eat rice with a knife and a fork I thought that it is right to put rice on the back of the fork and eat, till then. However, it was slightly difficult for me. Then, my host family told me that did not have to put rice on the back of the fork.

2. Did you learn anything?
I have known that I have to place my fork and knife parallel to each other on the plate when I had finished eating. However, I knew that I put them at the position of 4:00 for the first time.

Class #6 Time

1. Please explain a time proverb in your culture.
Time and tide wait for no one <You are wasting your time if you keep delaying something that must be done instead of doing it today.>

Procrastination is the thief of time <Time is precious, once it is past no one can go back and claim it thus everyone should be mindful of how his time is spent.>

b. A stitch in time saves nine
This mean is “It ends with one needle if you mend the dress that the string becomes loose at once. However, the hole comes to grow big, and you have to sew by as many as ten needles when you leave it.” So, do that you can do it now right now. If you do what needs to be done as soon as possible, you don't have to make a fuss later.

c. There's no time like the present.
It is a chance now. There is not chance other than now.

d. Let's meet at 4. If I'm not there by 5, leave without me at 6, and I'll be there at 7.
I have never heard this proverb and I have no idea. However, I dislike unpunctual person. When I am late for time I lose not only my time, but also partners time.
